  • Getting DVD architect chapters to go back to menu.

Posted by Frank Manno on November 1, 2007 at 11:16 am

I have a project set up and on the main menu there is PLAY and CHAPTERS.

The media contains chapter points and all is well.

From the main menu if you select CHAPTERS it goes into another menu with all the chapters there. So far so good.

So, when you select a chapter and the chapter finishes, the DVD continues to play the rest of the chapters.

I want it to go back to the menu so the viewer can select a new chapter to watch.

I tried looking at END ACTIONS in the top right section and can’t seem to find anything appropriate. It’s set to ‘MOST RECENT MENU’.

Use the end action to send them back to the menu you’d like them to see.
If it helps you, right click the menu in the DVD Properties window, and rename it. That’ll help you find it in the End Action dropdown.

    Hi Douglas,

I tried that (Setting end action to a menu) but it just goes ignored no matter where I point the end action to. It just keeps on playing into the next chapter.

It’s as if DVD architect doesn’t know where the chapter finishes.

I hope I made the chapters properly in Vegas to begin with.

It was 3x 10 minute sections butted up together on the vegas timeline to make 1 x 30 minute segment. At each 10 minute interval I simply put a Marker and gave it a name.

I’m assuming that DVD architect will detect that the chapter finishes where the next one starts, am I right?

Do I have to tell DVD architect how long the chapter goes for?
so that it knows where I want it to finish?

Frankie, in the menu on the left side of the screen, do you see the individual chapters?
If so, double-click any one of them to have it displayed on the centre portion of your screen.
Now go to the End Actions Menu options in the menu on the right-hand side of your screen and make sure it’s pointing to the desired menu page.
Check all your chapters to make sure they point to this same menu page.

I have had this same problem when I have chapters set up by having onje long event on the time line and having the chapters delineated by marrkers. DVDA doers not seem to know that the chapter ends and continues playing to the end of the event. I have gotten around this by placing the different chapters on diffreent time lines in Vegas and make separate projects and then placing them in DVDA as sepaarate events. Then when it reaches the end of the chapter it foolows the end action and goes back to the menu you point it to.

You don’t need to actually go back to vegas and create multiple timelines. You can do this in DVDA. First, be sure you have chapter markers set when rendering in Vegas. Then in DVDA, drag the video file to the Project Overview window. Now right-click this asset and rename it (like as “CH1”). Now drag the same file again, and rename it again (like “CH2”). Do this for every chapter you want to play only once. DVDA is smart enough to not actually add more video to the project, it is simply an event designation. Now double-click the first one “CH1” and in the timeline set “In” and “Out” markers based on the chapter start/end points. Do this for every renamed entry you dragged, for all chapters.

If you want a “Play All” button to work, then drag another one, rename it “PlayAll” and use this asset for the button.

A bit of a pain, but works for your intended purpose.
