  • Getting BEEEEP into my timeline trouble – Audio issues

Posted by Yama Rose on April 7, 2013 at 2:59 pm

Hi — I need help with exactly that!

I have been trying to lay in an audio track in my timeline of an extended BEEEEEP sound (like a censor), but when it plays in my timeline the sound comes out as BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP. This has happened with two different tracks that in the viewer sound fine (BEEEEEEEEEEEEP) but when rendered in the timeline get broken up into choppy distinct beeps (BEEPBEEPBEEP). What gives?

Sounds like you have an unsupported audio format on your timeline, likely a mp3 file. Convert all audio files to wav or aiff and you’ll be in good shape.

Thank you! It is indeed an mp3 file. This should hopefully be the fix I needed. Many thanks. Will report back.

All audio should be uncompressed, sample rate 48 KHz, AIFF or WAV. Then your audio won’t need endless render and you won’t get these odd occurences.

A belated thank you to Ryan Holmes and Philip Howe – after I converted the file to WAV the issues with sound went away. Problem solved!

Glad to help. You shouldn’t have to render audio in FCP, unless you’ve put a bunch of plugins on it. Like Philip said, all audio in FCP should be in 48kHz WAV or AIFF and you’ll be good. FCP doesn’t like mp3 files.

Just a final piece to the puzzle. Make sure the bit depth of the uncompressed audio is only 16 or 24 bit. FCP also has trouble with sample rates like 32 bit.
