Even though my new camcorder shoots 5.1 audio I have rendered my first projects out to stereo. I had a small project on timeline that I had rendered out as stereo & just for curiosity to see what the difference in file size would be I tried to re rendered out using 5.1.

I have tried this a few times but always get message that an error had occurred while opening a codec. I know that I have the codec on the machine since I can play 5.1 from timeline & get audio from every speaker. Is there something else that I have to do?

    Thanks in advance

In your project settings/custom/audio tab, Drop down the stereo and select 5.1. Then drag a 5.1 video on the timeline. You should see 3 stero tracks along with the video track, Those 3 stereo waveforms are all your 6 channels of 5.1.
