February 14, 2012 at 4:11 pmHi what exactly is the problem? As if it was maintaining 50 Mbps in FCP then by pressing cmd 9 you see the clip info.. However what is written there says 22 m/bytes this is different to Mbps. If you shot in 50Mbps then this is what the clips will be.
So if you tell me more I will tell you how I over came it.
The Canon XF 305 has a Canon Utility Disk which you have to use to back up your clips, if not you run into problems with the MXF wrapper.
I had to use Sony XDCAM Transfer to get the footage into FCP by importing it. If you are looking to Log and Transfer then you have to make sure you have the Plug-In for the Xf305 ( update found on Canons website ) also the Canon Utility has an update from 1.0 to 1.1 on there site.
Get back to me with pacifics as I found it a headache as well. If it is what is in the threads title about maintaining 50Mbps then it is indeed maintained so don’t worry.
All the best Ritch..

April 6, 2012 at 9:47 pmThanks for this useful information
I have been able to ingest my clips successfully from my Canon XF305 into FCP7, but when I click the clip data it is showing a bitrate of 14MB/sec whereas the original clip is 50mbps – is there a difference between MB/sec and mbps? or is there a problem with my input settings?
I hope you can help

April 23, 2012 at 5:48 pmHi there, I had the same concerns however the rate at which you shot at ie 50mbs is maintained there is a difference as you suggest and Bits and Bytes are indeed different along the lines of 4 to 1…
So don’t worry it’s an easy confusion which lead to me pulling out my hair as I had to maintain said bit rate for broadcast and feared rejection and raising it on here at 1st didn’t lead to the problem being solved but eventually with research and the help of a University Technician I soon learnt I indeed had no problem at all. I even tried all the different settings ie Native, HQ etc etc and got different readings which alarmed me further, alas that is why I didn’t delete the thread incase someone else had the same path and concerns…
I do hope everything goes well and do rest assured that the Mbps is indeed maintained..
I did find the MXF files from Canon a bit of a nightmare at 1st especially if they were not transferred using canons utility program or copied without said software and plug-ins and had no luck at first with Log and Transfer into FCP, especially as the XF305 at the time was newly released and the updates not available on Canons website but after a couple of phone calls to the canon help desk the update was soon available which answered quite a few issues. Basically the 422 Codecs are the same and the re-wrap into MXF files makes for slight compatibility issues, I would update my Canon Software if you are running version 1.0 as Version 1.1 addresses some of the early issues.. I went from Mini DV to tape less media and CF Cards for ease of use and at first had some real issues that could have been avoided and which made the whole process bumpy at 1st but once I got to grips with it all I didn’t regret going with XF305 at all, at 1st I questioned if I had indeed made the right decision but a year or 2 on and all is well…
Best regards and I hope all turns out well…

February 3, 2013 at 3:37 amHi, as far as I know, it is hard to import 50Mbps MXF videos to FCP 7 for editing. FCP X and Adobe PPro CS6 may work well with them.
From googling, I found the post “Two ways to ingest Canon XF305 MXF recordings to Final Cut Pro 7“. You can follow the two ways to have a try. Good luck.
