  • Get ris of lines from lights shooting football at night

Posted by Dave Petteruto on March 14, 2006 at 7:36 pm

When shooting night football I tend to get lines or streaks from the lights when the camera is at certain angles. Is there a filter or lens hood that will eliminate this for me? I’m just using a simple Cannon Optura 20 (getting good footage though!)

    Thanks

The streaks are a well-known artifact of the small CCD chips the camera imager uses.

You can buy “lens shades” (or sun shades)of various kinds, but the way sports shooting works is that you’ll likely end up with lights in the shots (close enough to cause the streaking) no matter how much “shade” you add to the lens.

Best bet is to get as HIGH a camera position as you can, so you are tilted down away from as many of the strong lights as possible.

You might try a different model of camcorder to see if the streaks are reduced.

Thax, Thanks for the info. Hopefully I can upgrade my camcorder sometime down the road.
    Have a great day.
