Sounds like you solved this, but I was able to fix it without plugins recently just using the Lumetri color panel.
If you go to the new Hue Saturation Curves you have the ability to sample the splotch and adjust its luma, saturation or hue. In my case, I was able to do it with Hue vs. Luma and Hue vs. Hue. Looked completely natural.
You could also probably get it to work with the HSL Secondary corrector, by sampling the splotches, as well.
