Get rid of car white noise in FCP? What audio tools?
I have footage of people talking while driving in a car. The on-camera mic isn’t very good. You can basically hear what people are saying, but I’d love to get rid of all of that car “white” noise that’s happening in the background. Are there effective tools in FCP that let you do that?
I tried the AUHipass, and it basically just made people sound like they were talking in a tin can, plus, the talking becomes barely audible. Are there other tools to try?
Unfortunately, I’m only working with FCP HD 4.5. So I don’t know if there are more advance tools beyond this version. Thanks!

If your audio is that bad, I would recommend reshooting it with better equipment and someone who knows how to use it. If that’s not possible, then I’d recommend you speak to an audio post person.

Try the noise reduction tool in Soundtrack Pro (I think it was in the version that came with FCP 4.5 but I’m not sure). That may help some, however if the audio is as bad ad you describe the ONLY way to get workable audio would be to reshoot with proper audio gear.
There are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

If time allows, I would consider ADR. It’s tedious as hell, but car scenes tend to be quite a challenge even with good mics and equipment.

I find SoundSoap to be the best noise reduction software around. Watch the tutorial on Bias’ website, it’s truly amazing.
