I realize this is going to be a kind of niche problem but here goes. I use a laptop for video editing that has integrated intel graphics so I decided to add an eGPU especially for rendering. For some reason I am realizing little or no gains in performance. The eGPU is a Sonnet Breakaway 750 EX with a GeForce RTX 4060 and the laptop has a Thunderbolt 4 input.

    Computer specs:

    Device name XXXXXX

    Processor 13th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-13700H 1.70 GHz

Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.7 GB usable)

    Hard drive 2 TB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Graphics (integrated) Intel® Iris® Xᵉ Graphics

Ports 1 USB Type-A 10Gbps signaling rate (HP Sleep and Charge); 2 USB Type-A 10Gbps signaling rate; 2 Thunderbolt™ 4 with USB Type-C® 40Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge); 1 HDMI 2.1

3 different renders, the first with GPU acceleration off, 2nd with integrated Intel graphics on, and 3rd (Optimal) with NVIDIA enabled. ALL were close but Intel showed slightly better results. Problem I have is how low GPU encoding is utilized (my reason for this setup!) which shows in attached pics.

Render as is MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4 that matches video settings

Example video file is 25:34 in length with this info and video projects were set to match:

    Media information

    Stream format: MPEG-4

    Video stream #1

    Video format: AVC

    Resolution: 1920 x 1080 px

    Aspect ratio: 16:9

    Color depth: 8 bit

    Frame rate: 29.970 fps

    Scan type: Progressive

    Bit rate: 2410846 bps

    Audio stream #1

    Audio format: AAC

    Sampling rate: 48000 Hz

    Channels: 2 channels

    Bit rate mode: Constant

    Bit rate: 159575 bps

Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

    Hello!
It seems like Vegas Pro is not utilizing the GPU. There might be a few reasons for this, but here are three important things to consider.

    – First things first, make sure that your laptop is using the highest performance setting for Thunderbolt, and there are no issues with the Thunderbolt cable or port. Performance can be limited if the Thunderbolt connection is not optimal.

    – Check that hardware acceleration is working properly.

To do that, go to Options > Preferences > Video tab.

Under GPU acceleration, make sure you’ve selected the option that uses your 4060. If it’s set to “Auto,” select your GPU manually to ensure Vegas is utilizing it.

    – For Vegas to render the video whith hardware acceleration, you need to make sure you’re rendering using the NV encoder (NVEC) instead of Mainconcept AVC. You can change that when customizing render settings under “Encode mode”
