I’m a noobie in 3d, not just Cinema. But my question is, isn’t there some way to just draw a wireframe and have polygons mapped to that wireframe? Instead of having some shape and manipulating the existing wireframe?

Is this too advanced or am I missing something?

It seems, mechanically and from a programming pov, that it’s not unlike drawing a spline and being able to extrude ane revolve etc.

Thanks for any help in clearing up what I’m missing.

You can build by hand poly by poly, point by point. You can extrude a spline shape (ExtrudeNurb) you can sweep one spine along another spline (SweepNurb) you can spin a spline around an axis (LatheNurb) etc. There is no substitute for reading the docs, tryign some tutorials (try the QuickStart Manual) check out places like c4dcafe.com, pixel2life.com etc, etc…

Drawing a wireframe and creating polygons is practicaly the same. The wires you see are the edges of polygons. You can’t get one without the other.

Yeah, I got that. I meant that I’d like to be able to draw lines from point-to-points in a 3D grid and the polygon would be created as a result. More like drawing with a pencil and having the third dimension created.

Thanks though. I’ve been experimenting and such and am getting the hang of it.

you can use the create polygon tool for this, it works exactly as you described. Just create an empty polygon object and start to draw polygons.
