    Going to try and make this as clear as possible:

    I have created a generator in Motion 5, and below will run down my steps for creation. When I try to use the generator in FCPX it has an error warning that translates to “Missing Generator”. (https://support.apple.com/kb/PH12711?viewlocale=en_US)

    I am a complete Motion 5 newb and imagine my issue resides somewhere with the creation of the generator;

    Generator purpose:
    To show the remaining length of a segment in the movie for many different segments with different lengths along the timeline. To be represented as a bar filling up per segment. My first generator will be super basic, to just verify the functionality.

    Steps to create my generator:
    1. New Generator
    2. Line tool, draw line, make thick
    3. Shape -> ‘Write On’
    4. Save with new name in my new custom generator sub menu.

    That’s it.

    Clay,

    How did you incorporate the Generator in FCPX? Did you Publish it in Motion to make it available?

    I did publish it in motion, as a generator, just like your screenshot.

    If you want to post it somewhere I’ll pull it down and take a look at it …

    My build works here. Didn’t do anything to it except load it in Motion and republish as a Generator.

    hmmm… confused…

    When I opened motion I created a new FC Generator, when I hit ‘save’ I named it and it shows up in FC.

    Inside of Motion, do I need to look for a ‘publish’ options and ‘publish as generator’? I see ‘publish template’, but not generator..??

    You may have started out with a Motion Project instead of a Generator. There is a box in the save dialog to Publish as FCP Generator. At this point the package that I submitted back to you is a Generator. You should be able to run it in Motion and save.

    Or you can manually install it in ~/Movies/Motion Templates/Generators

    Okay, so I tried a few things and still the same outcome, the ‘missing generator icon’

    What i’ve tried:

    I created a new project in motion and made certain to create a FC Generator from the start. I saved it, found it in FC and poo…

    I went back to a different motion project and did the publish as FC generator as suggested, and still in FC.. Poo –

    I also was able to open your motion project, publish it as FC Generator and still POO.

    I am now wondering if it is an issue with my final cut being version 10.0.5…

    Hence, as we have had issues updating to the newer versions in the past (unconnected media and lost media etc..)
    Has anyone had issues with their projects and events when updating from 5?

    Thanks thanks!

    Just for those of you who may be interested:

    I updated the FCPX version from 5 to 9 and right off the bat all six of the generators I created work now in FCPX! & None of our projects appear to be negatively effected by the update (as we were very concerned of that).

    Thanks for all you guys help & sorry I may have wasted some of your time.
