    Hey everyone…

I am having an issue with my project that I try to open up my laptop…

I captured all my footage on my desktop to an external Hard Drive, and did some work to it (this is a 2-day,2 camera shoot = 20hrs of raw footage)

When I try to take my external Hard Drive and plug it into my laptop to get some work done on the go, it has to re-generate all of the peak audio files…… this takes hours on my laptop (as it is not as fast as my desktop)

Is there anyway I can avoid this rediculous process? I am losing a lot of time, and I’d like to be able to work on the project from both computers….

I am using premiere pro cs3 – my desktop is a pc with q6700 processor and 8gb ram. Vista 64 bit.

My laptop is running cs3 as well, with vista 32 bit, 3gb ram 2.2 gb dc processor.

    Thanks,

    Derek

Just to add to this….. once I try to open the project up on the laptop off of the external hard drive…. then I plug it back into my desktop to edit it there, it does the same thing…. it asks me where some of the footage is, then after telling it where it is, it regenerates all 20 hrs of peak files…..

You need to make sure the drive is using the same Drive Letter everytime you take it to another computer, then you’ll not have this issue anymore because its seeing the same location as it was seeing it on the other system.

    John,

How do I change the letter of my drive? when I plug the drive in my desktop, it comes up as “H” drive…. when I plug it in my laptop, it comes up as “E” drive….

any way I can tell my laptop to read it as “H” ?

    Thanks,
    Derek
