  Generating Peak File horror show again

  I still don’t understand exactly what’s happening here. I load an interview clip that’s about 30 minutes long. Graphically, the entire clip is shown as a waveform. I start chopping out pieces so that my customer can see a rough cut of just the subject’s responses. Halfway through this process, all the waveforms disappear and Premiere starts generating peak files FOREVER. I searched posts for answers and tried unticking preferences and all, but the behavior doesn’t change. What the h@ll needs to happen here to make this stop? Seriously getting frustrated with this last update from Adobe.
