    Hi

Is there anyway of generating a square tip stroke with standard ae’s generate stroke… if not is there maybe another way… thats easy? I have 1000 lines to mask and all of them have curves and generate stroke works really well but my director insist on having a square tip.. i wish i coud change the brush stroke from round to square….

    Thanks

I was going to say just mask off the ends, but then you said 1000 masks, so that wouldn’t work.
Try applying a little median to your strokes, that tends to flatten the edges, but then you may need to play with levels or some matte choker to get any opacity back. Also adjust the spacing parameter on stroke effect to maintain opacity.
This wont help if your strokes are all on the same layer though.

I always wanted flat tipped strokes. Hopefully AE and trapcode will add this feature.

Maybe there is a way with expressions to track a subtractive mask to the end point of a mask path?

    Thank You

I don’t know whether this will help for your specific purpose, but strokes on shape layers do have line cap options that include squared-off ends.

You can use Trim Paths on the shape paths to make the lines grow and reveal.

    Make a New Solid.
Make a mask with the rectangular tool.( by default its on ADD.
Duplicate the mask and change it to SUBTRACT and check INVERTED on.
select generate < stroke change the paint style in stroke to reveal original image. Adjust the brush size as you like. That's it!!!
