    Hi Everyone!

I have abit of prior final cut experience but I have quite a few general questions, Im sure to some they will be very obvious and I am working my way through the hefty manual but a hint in the right direction or toward a good tutorial series would be great. I come from a background of animation but my company does video edit work and its starting to get abit heavier and I seem to be struggling!

Most edits are for corporate clients of a event they have just held, so the main footage is usually DV tape in 4:3 or anamorphic 16:9 and then they normal want some titles, static photos and static images of powerpoint slides slipping in as well as some other video clips that come from a range of resolutions, frame rates and codecs, and a background soundtrack.

When the edits all done it gets exported to ProRes422 for projection, some small clips h.264 for web and the whole event split in sections to PAL DVD.

So my question is whats my best workflow for all of this as each time I do a edit I alway seem to end up running into problems with quality.

for instance a project I tried doing acouple of weeks ago

Footage: Mostly DV footage anamorphic 16×9 with some DV 4×3 thrown in, a title sequence, some static jpgs, a 800×600 .wmv at 25fps and a 1920×1080 .avi at 30fps – client wants a 16×9 DVD and .h264 clips for the web

Some of the footage is interlaced, some is not, some is anamorphic some is not, resolutions are different sometimes, framerates of clips are different sometimes, final cut seems to make a mess of static images most of the time and its being exported to both DVD and web/computer screen formats so what do I do with interlacing etc to make sure I get the best quality? Also whats my best way to approach it so I can cut to music easily without some clips popping up unrendered when working on the time line?

I know I’m entering a minefield of formats and really need a good bit more training, just not sure where to start!

Thank you so much and sorry for the long post!

    Hi David,
We have helped many companies with your same issues. Basically is building an automated workflow that can help have all files in the same flavour with just placing them in a selected folder.
Also there is CatDV, an asset manager that can help you file handling for both audio and video, even stills.
Let me know if you need any help.

    Best
