    Hi all,

I’m new in this forum and apologize in advance if the question has been asked many times before. I’m mostly a M100 user and did many works in FCP also but only DV. We are about to post-produce a show here in Paris shooted with 3 SONY HD 750 cameras. The show will be edited in FCP 5 (because of multicam options) and we are about to buy a BM HD PRO. I’m pretty new with it. We’re gonna have around 50 hours of footage.

What is the best offline codec to work with internal SATA or FW 800 drives with the ability to keep RT EXTREME and reliability during editing ? Is this possible to down convert through HD/SD SDI output to DV codec during acquisition cause i heard that JPEG codecs does not support RT EXTREME ?

    thanks in advance.

    Hi Thomas,

There is really only one choice for your needs. I would recommend you capture with the DVCPRO HD codec. It will capture and playback to a single 7200rpm disk without problems and this Apple codec also supports RT Extreme effects.

You could down convert to DV but I would recommend you try using DVCPRO HD as the quality of this compressed codec is stunning and it is nice to be able to work with a HD workflow without having to offline in SD and recapture the media in HD.
