General Motion Graphics Course Questions
This is to help out Mike Eddy, an instructor at Century College in White Bear Lake MN. They are considering teaching a class on Apple Motion and After Effects. But, want to be sure to include practical skills that a motion graphics professional will need.
The questions are as follows…
As you see the industry, what is the need for experience in Motion or After Effects?
How are Motion and After Effects similar or different from one another?
Which tool is best for which type of effect?
Any ideas on what to cover in the class?
Which resources would be the best to start with?
How could an assignment be structured to give students usable skills?Thanks all

I’ve never touched Motion, so I wouldn’t be able to assist in those questions. After Effects is my daily bread.
In my opinion, the basic fundamentals are too often ignored by people who want to jump into the program and do “cool things like I saw in that movie!!!!!!!”
Basics like keyframe animation, Precomposing, masks and track mattes are vitally important.
VideoCopilot.net has a great basic section that has 10 tutorials to start you off right.
