  • General instability – Generators involved?

    Hi,

in my second week of testing, having by now about 20 projects, all relatively short, and about 5 events, none of them with more than 30 clips.

I now have a pretty unstable fcpx, especially if using Generators. Quite a few of them, when skimmed over, will not display the correct image but a nice full frame blue.

Editing them in the timeline is feasible but usually deleting them crashes the system. I can open such a generator in Motion and the correct picture is there in the Motion project…

Have tried many things, from deleting all projects, to repairing permissions and of course trashing prefs, to no avail.

The disk I have FCPx on is a dedicated partition running 10.6.3 and pretty much nothing else but the 3 new softwares.

    Any ideas?

    Patrice

    Don’t you mean 10.6.8? Not 10.6.3.

Same here. Some generators work, others just generate a nice blue screen. (I call them Windows95-FX)

I followed another thread with the blue screen issue. Try logging in under a different account and see if that fixes your issue.

    Best,
    Geoff

Sorry, I meant 10.6.7. I haven’t updated to 10.6.8 due to many people experiencing problems. Will try to log in with another user and see if it fixes it.

    Thanks for the help

For me the solution to the blue screen problem was connected to Motion 5.

    Following advice in this thread

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/335/7257

    I went to

user/library/application support/motion/presets/projects. There was only one file in the folder which I removed. The file was Broadcast HD 1080 copy.preset. I am in the UK so NTSC presets are not appropriate for me. The Motion 5 Preferences do not include a 1080 25fps Preset and so to create a default preset Motion 5 creates a copy of a selected preset in the existing set of defaults.

Having solved the problem I decided to dice with the blue screen of death again and created a new 1080 25fps default in Motion 5. Sure enough the problem recurred, remove the motion preset and all is well.

Creating a new user account also worked for me but this solution seemed to deal with the source of the problem for me without the need to switch accounts. I hope it may be of help to you.

    Regards

    Eric
