  • General Error with Prores 4444

So I’ve been pulling my hair out for the past 5 hours trying to get around a general error during my output. Sequence is 2048×1024 23.98 proress 4444 on fcp 7.0.2

tried trashing render files, trashing preferences and cache files, rebooting clearing the pram, repairing disk permissions, copy and pasting into a new timeline, copy and pasting into a new project, outputting to 20 or so different disks on 4 different computers; everytime it makes it to about 2% in the output and general error crash.

Finally I’m trying to output to proresHQ and it’s at 15% and doing fine. I don’t think the codec file itself is messed up as i’ve been doing renders to 444 from the viewer window, after effects, and nuke all week; any suggestions, the clients would like to get this as a prores 444 qt file; thanks for your time!

Which machine and its specs as you are using it, which OS, FCP, QT versions, and what 3rd party hardware are you using.

MY first guess is your drives are too full to be able to finish the complete render or you are using FW drives and they are spinning down during your renders.

Like I said a prores hq render works fine and that’s an even longer render than 4444! clients did provide fw drives but writing to our sata raids with more than enough space to render to. All machines are running fcp 7.0.2, OS 10.5.8, QT 7.6.6, kona card is only 3rd party hardware aside from the raid hard in the system during renders.

[Thom Obarski] “everytime it makes it to about 2% in the output and general error crash.”

What’s going on in your timeline right there?
