Please help. I am trying to export from FCP to a Quicktime Movie in order to make a DVD of a 57 min. video but about 90% of the way through the “render” I keep getting a “General Error” Message. What is this? What setting may be set wrong? Using a 450 mhz G4, FCP 3, firewire external 120 Gig hard drive (with an IBM drive). System 9.2.1. One gig of ram in the computer. 700 megs to FCP. The project is composed of about 12 four minute clips and several stills at the head and tail.

Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    that happens to me sometimes…

it’s usually one of two things…
    1) The harddrive that i am using doesn’t have enough space left…make sure that you check that and change it under system settings…

    or

    2) somewhere on your time line there’s something not rendered.
also try to do an audio mixdown before you export

Thanks much. I tried freeing up some Harddrive space and still get the same message. But I think you’re on to something. Any idea how a much room/storage a 1 hour, uncompressed, stereo, quicktime movie needs?

    Hi Don,

am sitting in front of my beloved G5 and got the same message. In my case, it was a weird corruption in a dissolve – look for things that won’t render – I found the dissolve in a complex 24 minute show by trying to export the timeline in pieces – didn’t take long to isolate the problem – got that crazy general error message repeatedly in one spot!!

solved the problem by deleting and reapplying the dissolve – your problem could be similar….

    good luck!!
