Hi all I am looking for some advice on adding textures to a bird which i have modeled I have exporting a uv outlined map to photoshop in BP UV in C4d.
So i do my work in photoshop then i reapply my material but it looks crap hard edges everywhere looks pixelated in spots can anyone offer me any advice, oh i was wondering am i supposed to have the hypernurbs switched on or off before i export the UV map?

    Another question along similar lines,
Does anybody know how i can get materials to show up in photoshop cs3 3D?
I export to it from CINEMA 4D. The only export options that work are for 3D studio which shows the attached material but its blank and when you export as wavefront the material dosent show up at all. Is there perhaps a plugin that allows more export file options?
The reason i want to do this is so hopefully i can paint my material and update it in photoshop and then i should be able to attach it back in CINEMA 4D.I dont think im being very clear here but if anybody knows what im on about get back to me please.

    Thanks Emmet

Hyper nurbs should be off for your uv export.
Your hard edges are where the polys meet. You will always have a seam and the biggest benifit of body paint is you can hide them…so exporting to photoshop eliminates that benifit since you cannot se what happening in real time… A way around it would be to paint those hard edges in BP after or mark them before so you can see where it will be.

You might find changing the type of Hyper Nurbs to Catmull-clark and changing the Sub divide UVs option handy when using a texture like this.

No clue about the cs3 stuff…dont have it.

thanks Randy I will give that a go, Im new to bodypaint and im thinking of scrapping the uv export idea and doing all my painting in bodypaint directly, the biggest problem im having is painting across the polygons, i want to be able to do this smoothly, is there perhaps a good tutorial you could recommend?

    Thanks Emmet

In my opinion the most important part of BP is unwrapping your UVs. So you are going to want to learn interactive mapping. If you can get your model unwrapped nicely your painting will be much smoother.

There are a couple starter tutorials on http://www.C4Dcafe.com just search body paint in the tutorials page.

There is a nice tutorial by Slouchcorp on the c4dportal here:
    https://www.c4dportal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1208
Its a full tutorial on how to make a gold fish so its not too in depth about BP but gives you a nice idea of how to lay out our UVs so you can paint.

The best by far is the 3d Kiwi DVD (fifty dollars) its like 20 hours of BP. Its amazing…more about it here:

    Good Luck
