  • Gearshift Proxy Files are Massive – is this right?

    I’m attempting to edit my first AVCHD-shot project.

    camera = panasonic hdc-sd1

    computer = dual-core pc with 2gig of ram running vegas 8.0.

    I bought gearshift and got it set up pretty quickly, it’s a cool little utility.

    I dropped all the avchd files in a folder and set up the proxy files as DV Widescreen. I started the conversion process and headed off to sleep.

    I awoke to a low-disk error — the DV widescreen files are massive and filled the drive!

    A 321 MB AVCHD file (about 3:30 long) unpacked into a 24.3 GB AVI. Is this right???

    I hope I did something wrong because I have about 30 clips and they won’t fit on this drive.

    Thanks in advance for any advice or guidance.

    Hi Edan, We got your email and will work with you off line on this and post back here when we figure out what’s going on so that others who may encounter this will know what to look for. Yea, those files are way to big to be DV. 😉

    Just so everyone knows – the problem was on my end – not Gearshift. I had inadvertantly clicked on the HD output setting, instead of keeping it on “none.” Problem solved, proxies made, editing has commenced.
