I am on a G5 running the latest 5.14 and AJA Kona 2 and have tested this on a Kona 3, Intel Mac, running 5.14 as well with the same results.

Essentially rendering using Aja Kona 2vuy from a PC for a FCP sequence set up as 8 bit uncompressed gives me the proper gamma. However, rendered from a mac using 8 bit uncompressed or Aja Kona 2vuy gives me a gamma shift of about .23.

I was having problems with stills as well, but was able to figure out via online documentation that in 5.14 you can now set gamma for still imports. By changing the setting to 2.2, sgis from both pc and mac both look fine on the waveform.

Essentially I did a linear ramp in after effects and should see a straight diagonal line in my waveform monitors in fcp, however again the only correct one is the Kona setting on the PC (and also the sgi stills once I corrected that setting). I want to know if you have any advice or any way to change the way fcp sees renders from a mac.

This seems to be unrelated to the Kona as I have done similar tests on non Kona FCP systems. I realize apple tries to interpret the gamma based on where it is rendered and as almost all of my material is after effects generated, its only getting it right part of the time. Please help.

    Thanks.

    Hi,
I’ll recommend you to read the Graeme Nattresss article: Video levels in FC Pro. You ca get it in the LAFCUG. Also in the SHAKE’s help there is a good explanation of how FC and SHAKE manage the gamma in a different way.
    Cheers,
    rafael
