Gamma shift as Boris titles come in
Hi All
Just had a strange issue where the gamma of the BG video goes higher as a Boris title comes in from the V1 track – and then back to normal after the fade out. You don’t see it in Media 100 but only once exported to QT as either by-ref or self-contained. I’m working in the Media 100i codec for this project with 13.0.4 and OSX 10.5.8, QT 7.6.9. No time to try and resolve the problem so I did the title in AFX.
I’ll do some tests this week but in the meantime does anyone know what’s going on here?

That´s the joy of QuickTime. Media 100 i codec uses a different RGB colorspace than Apple codecs. So if you render something in ProRes, it looks different, at least in QuickTime player. The solution is to do a QuickTime export into the codec of your choice (not as by ref or self contained), or to stay within a single codec on your timeline.

Thanks for the quick response Floh. I have not changed the codec on the timeline – it’s M100i throughout so the rendering of titles is also M100i so there shouldn’t be any gamma shift when rendering the titles should there?
I did a project using M100i about a month ago and did not have this problem then – nothing’s changed.

yeah, I bet it render in something different. Locate the rendered file in your Rendered Media directory, and open it in QuickTime Player. Command-I to get the clips infos, and there you should see the used codec.
Make sure your render settings are correct, and try to rerender.

Just looked at the rendered media file in QT player and it’s definitely Media 100i – the only thing I can think of is I rendered it lossless – not that that should make a difference?

Just get over it and export via QuickTime.
