Boy, this one has me stumped! I am working on a project which uses a combination of footage (HDV clouds timelapse converted to uncompressed QT), 3D elements from Max 2010, and elements created in After Effects CS4.

I’m rendering approvals at this point, and when I move my Quicktime output (7.6.2) from my workstation (Vista 64 bit, NVIDIA GForce GTX 260 – no OpenGL anywhere in the process) to my desktop, and send it to the client (QT MJPEG-A, 480 x 270), the client says it’s dark, and indeed viewing it on my desktop machine, it is quite dark and a bit de-saturated as well. On my workstation (plasma monitor, desktop has a CRT monitor)everything looks just fine, both in AE and the Quicktime player, but the output does not cut it.

I have tried all the Color Management setups, as well as the Project Settings in AE that can change the Gamma adjustments. No dice! The output looks as if (to use photographic terms) someone put a neutral density filter that darkened my output a couple of stops, if not more. The amazing thing is that everything looks perfect on my workstation. Could this be fixed with a Quicktime update? I’ve been holding off on that one. I’ve got an interim fix by applying an adjustment layer and kicking the Gamma (in Levels)to 1.6, but this should not be necessary. Oh yeah, AE 9.0.2.42. Thanks, and sorry for the long post.
