I’m looking to increase my RAM in my Dual 2 GHz Power Mac G5. I presently have 1 gig of RAM and am looking to increase it to 3 gig. I’m running Mac OS X version 10.4.7. My research tells me the correct memory to add is PC3200 DDR SDRAM 184 pin DIMM. A local store has PC2700 in stock and is telling me that it will work just as well. This doesn’t sound right to me.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    I do everything though http://www.crucial.com.

Their step-by-step tool should confirm or deny your research. I’d trust whatever it says. If all else fails, give them a call.

The G5 takes regular old cheap PC RAM. When I had a G5 I would get PC memory at Best Buy when it was on sale. Some G5 units do not take advantage of faster memory within its specs, I did buy faster RAM but it listed/defaulted to a slower speed. It worked fine but just don’t spent extra on faster memory.
