    Hi all,

We are currently running FCP 5.0.4 on G5:s with 2x2ghz processors.

This combo is getting very long in the tooth… but for the sake of stability (right or wrong) our strategy has always been to forgo “incremental” upgrades, and rather go big when when we do go.

Our next big step was going to be the “octo macs” that seem to be around the corner, and whatever NAB holds for FCP.

However – we find our selves in a serious production crunch that may force us into a “premature upgrade” with what’s available today.

So, my question is this: ballpark – what is the speed increase with the fastest/newest hardware/software available today over our current set-up. And, I define SPEED as rendering alpha channel-graphics over Blackmagic uncompressed 10bit video (hard-drive I/O taken out of the equation).

    Greateful for any input

    Jack

I was in your shoes last year and we opted to stay with a G5 quad instead of mac pros.

Glad we did, because there are a number of people having issues with different software they use besides final cut pro that seems to be broken or half working on intel macs.

How is your current setup “long in the tooth”

    just not fast enough?
