  • G5 FAN CYCLING ON PLAY

    Hello:

Wondering what other people are experiencing — my Dual 2.7 fans cycle up every time I hit play, with only DV 25 material. Is this normal? I’ve got the energy settings to Highest Performance — I’m wondering if it’s because my CPU is too close to a corner wall, and the airflow is the problem…

    Any real-world stories/assistance welcome.

    BTW, I’m on 10.4.4, latest drivers, etc…

    Thanks in advance, JIM.

    Jim,

My dual 2.7 does cycle the fans sometimes when I hit play but not all the time. They also don’t stay running high, but will cycle up and then slow down again after maybe five seconds.

You might want to get some software to monitor your temperatures if you’re concerned about it. Hardware Monitor is a pretty cool shareware product and inexpensive at 7 Euros (whatever that means as the dollar jumps around). They also have a free version that only shows temperatures, while the full version will show you fan speeds and other data. I tend to Quite it when capturing or printing to video so as not to have all of that information polling going on, although I doubt that’s an issue if you’re using DV25. Better safe than dropping frames though.
