I recently upgraded from a G4 to the G5. I have a AJA IO LA, firewire drives and a PCI SATA card with a SATA drive. Since upgrading, the system will not digitize 10 bit uncompressed from BetaSP to any firewire devices on the firewire 800 bus. It will digitize fine to the external SATA drive. I cannot determine if it’s a FCP issue, an Apple issue or an IO issue. Any ideas?

The IO doesn’t play well with external firewire drives.

From page 7 of the IO manual: “Firewire drive solutions are not generally supported in use with AJA IO LD&LA. Since they connect to the host Power Mac via Firewire and use the firewire bus bandwidth extensively, it cannot also be used for storage – at the same time.” So the Mac will have problems digitizing when there is a firewire drive and the IO connected to the firewire ports on the Mac. Since the SATA drive is connected PCI it is not affected.

The solution is to by a separate firewire PCI card for your external drive.
