Hi, has anyone run into “mounting” problems on the Avid HP Workstations (xw8000, 8400) with the G-Raid 500 GB drives via firewire 400? We have 3 workstations, and it happens randomly on each one.

They sometimes mount, sometimes don’t, sometimes get “Delayed Write Failures,” sometimes unmount with various combinations of multiple drives, daisy chains, etc. Do you get my point? I’ve tried everything.

I’m not a computer hardware person, all I know is bigger numbers are better than smaller numbers.

Should we just buy Macs and forget about the whole PC thing? (Please say yes!)

    Thanks!

    Craig

I’ve just been tracking down this very problem – on a Mac. Tech support at G-Technology tells me you can’t have more than three FW drives daisy-chained – in fact, they recommend installing a separate PCI-e card just for their device.

    Hope that helps.

I have noticed that 3 daisy chained drives seems to be the max. But at times, I run into problems mounting just one drive, on a completely different PCI card than the integrated one, which I use soley for the Adrenaline box or MOJO, depending on system.

It’s really annoying having to turn drives on and off all the time. And the most annoying thing is that it’s completely random, making troubleshooting very difficult. Too bad you have same problem on a Mac, I was hoping that was the answer.

I run 2 G-Techs on an HP 4200. Both run very fast! I have the G-SATA that comes with it’s own controler card (you may have trouble getting 1, I am on a list at my dealer- I hear there is a problem geting the cards from the vendor)
The other drive in FW800 drive. The firewire 800 card is only $50 & there is no conflicts with MoJo being on the FW400 port.
