G-RAID Crashing

Hi Guys,

Today I decided to back up my feature length movie, which I’m about 60% through.
The movie is about 1.2 TB and exists on a 2TB G-RAID.
I am editing on a MAC DESKTOP.
And I planned on copying the project onto a 4TB G-RAID – which I just bought.

Unfortunately, the MAC only has (1) Firewire 800 Drive – which the 2TB is plugged into.
So I decided to “piggyback” the 4TB into the 2TB – by basically plugging the FireWire 800 Cable from the back of the 4TB into the 2TB.

This was not a bright idea.
The second I did it, I got a quick error message about the Scratch Discs for my Final Cut Project being messed up.

Then when I opened my Final Cut Project and I believe I was told
Cannot change the project because the Settings for the scratch disc is not set to Read/Write for the following path –
VOLUMES/GRAID/MY FEATURE PROJECT/FINAL CUT DOCUMENTS.

I opened the project, getting a little nervous.
I could work on it but when I tried to save it, I got –
FILE ERROR – The specified file is locked.

So I did some research and found I needed to change my security settings.
Easy enough I thought. I’ll just make sure Final Cut Documents is set to Read & Write and I should be on my way.
But, when I tried to change the security settings of FINAL CUT DOCUMENTS on the Get Info tab, I could not change the preference to READ & WRITE. I could unlock the icon but the other options remained gray.

So I called my buddy.
He had me to attempt to REPAIR THE DRIVE.
But, when I ran that process, there was a message about a node/structure error.
And, that’s when said – it could not be repaired and it also says I cannot save any of the files on the GRAID. I also get a warning to backup all my files.

So – long and the short – I believe my 2TB GRAID with my entire movie is about to crash.
I have all the tapes and I can re-digitize and resync all the audio so I’m not as f-ed as I could be.

If anyone has any advice or how to save this – please do.
When I tried transferring the files (by not piggybacking), I got a message some of the files could not be copied over because they are READ ONLY.

This is probably a perfect case for Disk Warrior.

Also, this is a perfect case on why your drives should be journaled.
