I just purchased a dual SATA port pcmcia card from Granite Digital (mac/pc) and a two bay hot swapable SATA II box from Firmtek for use with my G4 Powerbook. If you have a laptop with a card slot that might be an option. I love the ability to swap drives. I’ll be doing some speed tests next week and will post the results. I have one of Firmtek’s four bay boxes hooked up to a G5 tower. For DV or HDV projects I’m using a two drive striped raid configuration, more for storage space than for speed. Now I can pull a pair from the desktop machine and edit in the field, or vice versa.

There’s no question that the cables are not nearly as elegent as a single Firewire cable.

    Regards,
    David

I take it the G-Raid isn’t all that good by itself? The website says it gets 7 layers of DV…not true?

[Tim Martin] “I take it the G-Raid isn’t all that good by itself?”

    Tim,
All of the G-Tech products are of the highest quality and performance, with 2 year warranties and forced air cooling.

I have used G-Tech products since the company began making FW drives and have only had an issue with one of the 14 G-Tech products I own, the company swapped out the unit ( keeping my data intact) and returned the now working unit to me in less than 48 hrs.

IMHO often people only make decisions based on price, rather than true value of what they buy.

When the home made storage fails the only thing to do is curse, scream and then cry when all of your data is gone and you have now where to turn.
