June 8, 2010 at 12:00 pmHello.
I’m centimeters away from bying the EX3, but then I saw this post. As anybody will understand it’s hard to spend so much money on a videocamera if there is an update just around the corner. So my question is, does anybody know when the EX3 update is available on the European market?
Regards

Sony isn’t making this public. You have to have a trusted dealer who will let you know that they have the new shipment in.

June 10, 2010 at 6:08 pmSony is mailing me a sales brochure. I’ll post any new changes I see. The local dealer (Rule Broadcast / Boston Camera) told me that the new features listed in the first post are the only changes.
I thought the old hand grip was a pain. I don’t know if the new one will be that much better.
- 1. The lens hand grip has been changed to the same hand grip as that of the PMW-EX1R, with improved ergonomics for increased user comfort when used hand-held.
- 2. The handgrip also incorporates a One-Push Auto Iris button, again similar to the PMW-EX1R,which the camcorder (PMW-EX3) fully supports.
- 3. The lens focus ring, which is slideable from the AF/MF position to the Full MF postion, now includes the easily seen orange painted ring like the PMW-EX1R so that the current operational position of the focus ring can be easily discerned.
- 4. The PMW-EX3/2 now includes a promotional 16GB SxS card

June 10, 2010 at 6:52 pmIf Sony goes by past practice (as with the EX1R) there will probably be a cache record function on the updated EX3. Sony may even include SD recording.

June 10, 2010 at 7:38 pmGiven Sony mentions there’s no name change in the product, I have a hunch this is just one of those “the specs may change without notice” updates that one sees as a disclaimer on a lot of product literature spec sheets. The fact that this seems to be going out to dealers and not being used in public marketing, I suspect they think there’s nothing major added as a sales generator.

June 10, 2010 at 7:46 pmCraig is correct, the only changes to the model are what are listed in the original post
