    Hi Im trying to make a pair of binoculars using a solid comp for the binoculars and magnify effect as well as bulge. The problem is that when I use the normal linking expression from the center of the effect to the solids position it offsets itself and drifts from where I want it to be.
    It would be great if there was an expression that lets me parent the “center” of the fx to the position without having to be perfectly in line. Sorry this is probaly not very clear. Basically I would like to be able to parent the fx center to a layer and maintain its original offset.
    Please help!!!
    Cheers Aden

    I’m confused. Doesn’t it do that already, without expressions? I mean, you can move the centers of those effects around on the layer they’re applied to and then they move with the layer. Are you looking for something else?

    Thanks alot for your reply Dan. No the magnify effects center just stays where you have it set to regardless if the layer it is on moves.Sorry my question wasn’t very clear. I tried the pickwip expression but it seemed to be slightly offset when I panned side ways. The further I went sideways the worse it got. I could just hand animate the center but I wanted to see if there was a more efficient way.

    OK – I think I get it. Try this (change “binos” to name of your binoculars layer):

    L = thisComp.layer(“binos”);
    fromWorld(L.toWorld(L.anchorPoint))

    Thanks a lot again Dan. This kind of worked for me but I discover if i used a parent expression from the effects center then to the layer the effects on position data it works fine.Every thing else is just parent to that layer. Thank you so much for your time and your awesome website which ahs made my life so much easier
