    Using Vegas at my work to create training videos and need something to be able to add quality voiceovers. Have a nice mic already and will be getting a good room soon, but still lack a good interface to get the mic into the PC. Been looking at FW units (i.e. M-Audio and Presonus) but have no experience with firewire units such as these. I need to be portable with my laptop as well so was thinking to avoid PCI cards. Is this a good idea? Any recommendations from experience?

    Thanks in advance,

    Steven J

    I’ve used the Lexicon Omega for years with both my laptop and mainframe. No problems yet and the quality is excellent for V/O work. It’s USB interface has no latency to speak of. Would also recommend the M-Audio units.

    The cheep way would be record to a camera that you may already have.

    I use a

    TASCAM US-122: 2-Channel, 24-Bit USB Audio/MIDI Interface with TRS and XLR Inputs and Bundled Software

    $ 199 (https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/US122/)

    Works very well for me.

    The few times I did V/O I just plugged the mic into my sound card, armed an audio track in Vegas and recorded directly into Vegas.

    Worked great for me.
