fuzzy after effects
Hi there,
I’m doing a video for our new web app and for some reason it’s coming out a bit blurry and soft, is there any way I can sharpen it up? C&C welcome too -

I think it’s the compression. This is FLV, right? Make a version compressed to Animation or PNG codec and compare a frame. If the compressed version looks soft, your AE project is fine — it’s the compression.
You could post in the Compression Techniques forum to refine your compression technique, but to my eye, this looks normal for web-capable video. But I’m not a compression expert.

I don’t think it’s the compression, it’s a problem I’ve always had with after effects. I use cs 2 at the moment so maybe the font rendering isn’t great on it. The text is fuzzy in the comp window too, I have quality at full and view set to 10o%. The movie had to go through a double compression, but I’ll export it directly as a .flv later on and re-upload it -
Do you have the text items pre-composed? If so, have you checked the Collapse Transformations/Continuously Rasterize checkbox?

Have you looked at the Render Settings to make sure nothing’s set to anything like “low quality” or what-not?

the text is all in the comp, but it just doesn’t seem sharp. I’ve got motion blur on but the text is still slightly fuzzy even when the camera’s not moving.

I’m rendering from the file > export option and rendering as a h.264 qt. but even in the comp window it still doesn’t look as sharp as I’d like it to be.

What’s your pixel aspect ratio? If it’s not square your edges, especially round ones, can look kind of funky. Switch it to square in your comp’ settings and see what happens. Or zoom in on a rounded part of some text and toggle your aspect ratio switch.

Can you post a screen shot of the whole AE window with the problem (timeline, viewer, etc.)?

What happens when you turn the motion blur switch off?

here’s a screenshot of the entire project, it doesn’t make any difference to the quality if I turn motion blur on or off it the camera has stopped.
