Function to Add an Alpha Matte or an Alternative
I’m working on a project, and I’m struggling with the limitations PPro scripting compared AE. I’ve made script to isolate and track the subject(s) of an mp4, so right now I’m left with data [frame by frame pixel coordinates (I don’t know if this is the best way, but it works for now)].
I want to create a dynamic mask based on this data on the selected sequence, from the digging I’ve done a traditional mask like through Photoshop isn’t possible, so the next best thing is an Alpha Matte (AM) function which I know PPro and AE both support. However, for the life of me I cannot find any information if this is possible to add through script. But I figure since it can be done manually it should be possible.
Does anyone know any functions from PPro script which can help load an AM or perhaps an alternative to masking and AM altogether?

I’ve never used scripting in PPro, so not much help on that point from me, sorry.
Thinking out of the box, have you looked at Mocha Pro and the Python scripting within that?
Or, as you mention, do the scripting inside After Effects?
There is a great forum here on the COW with some hardcore AE coders.

Hi Mads,
I appreciate the input and I believe you’re completely right. I’ve looked into AE and it has the extend script functions to do exactly what I want with some fiddling. Mocha may too, though I personally don’t know much about it.
Unfortunately this is one of a series of projects to improve quality of life and streamline the editing cycle centered specifically for Premiere Pro to avoid the need to hop between software.
It is a bit unfortunate, the Adobe forum led me to believe that turning to C++ plug-ins is the only choice which would be quite the setback and potentially not much of an improvement to manually clicking through the steps for an alpha matte layer.
Still, I appreciate your suggestions
