  • Fully rendered sequence “renders” again for edit to tape

Posted by Dan Monro on August 10, 2010 at 3:13 pm

Outputting a 31 minute sequence using edit to tape. Its a MPEG IMX 525/6 SD timeline, and 90% of the material in it is MPEG IMX 525/6. There are some stills and a few ProRes 422 clips. Everything in the timeline is rendered. Double checked. All blue lines. There are also some Motion templates, and I DO have the setting checked to always use Best Quality wen rendering movies & motion templates using best quality. But I have assumed its doing that the first time I render.

When I start my edit to tape, I get a dialog box; “writing video”. It happens every time I try to start the output. Takes about 6 minutes to render.

My questions are: is it re-rendering? writing some sort of cache file? Am I missing something basic in my user prefs?

    This specific system:
    Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    2.93 ghz
    16g ram
    OSX 10.6.4
    FCP 7.0.2
    QT 10 & 7.6.6

    Project:
    MPEG IMX 525/60 (50 mb/s)
SD output Sony 4 ch Digibeta

So, I’m hoping I’m missing something simple. Thanks for any insight/advice.

Noticed a synch issue with the output, and realized my Kona was set to “free run”. Changed it to Ref in (525i29.97) to fix the synch issue, and now the “writing to tape” dialog took about a minute.

Could it be an issue with synch?

    Thanks,
