I’ve run into an odd issue and have not yet been able to figure out what’s going askew. Since it takes so long to render out tests, I’m hoping the brain-trust here might have some insight.

For many months now, I’ve been successfully rendering out videos from Vegas Pro 15 via FrameServer and Handbrake. I always use the Loop Region to select the footage I want to render, and haven’t had any issues with having the indicated length of selections be properly exported.

This week, though, I ran into a render where that wasn’t the case. Using the Loop Region to select the area I wanted to render, I used the typical Vegas2Handbrake workflow and Handbrake completed the rendering process to 100%. However, the selection I made was for about 17:14 of video, and I got about 17:13 back (sounds minor, but it definitely matters in the context of my projects). I’ve closed out Vegas Pro, restarted my computer, redone the rendering process and got the exact same result. I have also tried rendering the same Loop region via Vegas (circumventing the Handbrake process), and in that case I did get the video length I expected.

Looking at Handbrake’s logs, I see that the video duration mentioned coincides with the video lengths that I’m getting, and not the video length specified by the Loop Region. One item of note is that after rendering, the ‘light blue arrow’ above the timeline shows the length of what I’m getting as opposed to the length of what’s selected via Loop Region. Frankly I don’t understand that blue arrow, despite searches online and in the manual to try and learn more. But as far as I can tell, things are going wrong somewhere in the FrameServer or Handbrake rendering process, and I am not currently aware of any other settings I can try to manipulate to get the proper video length.

Through these forums I’ve seen that there used to be an issue with the Vegas2Handbrake process where a one-second buffer needed to built out in order for audio and video to sync properly. That issue was before my time, and I’ve never needed to add any time to my projects. But perhaps it could somehow be related?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

    Hi Joseph,

That seems like a really strange issue. Nothing popup from my pea brain. Obviously something has changed as you point out. The only alternatives I’m aware of is to either reinstall the frameserver routine or perhaps try Happy Otter Scripts depending on the reason you are frame serving.

    Best Regards……George

Thanks for weighing in, George. And yes, I’m feeling pretty pea-brained here myself. I’m running some more tests now, and looking for workarounds. I’ll investigate the Happy Otter scripts and keep in mind a reinstall of FrameServer, although I’ll probably save the latter as a last resort so I don’t accidentally muck anything up any further!

Hey Daniel– thanks for that, although as I acknowledged in my original post I have not previously been affected by that glitch. In other words, I typically just render out the Loop Region without adding any extra time and I get out what’s expected (both in length as well as with proper audio synchronization).

I’ll try adding the buffer time just to see if it makes a difference, but with the way I have my projects set up it would be problematic for me to add time in for every section of video I need to export. Hopefully there’s a different fix!
