On my last project I ended up using my .mac “public” folder a lot to transfer files between myself and a graphics guy. I’m thinking that I am going to be doing a lot of this in the future and was starting to look into setting up an FTP site. Does anyone have any recomendations on a particular company? If possible I’d like it to be based on usage (ie the more space you use the higher the price) because in between jobs I won’t be using it much at all.

If you are only going to use is sporadically, why not just use your .Mac account then, since you are already apparently paying for it?

To simplify the process, try this software called File Chute.

I’d want it mainly for size. My .mac is limited to 2G max. I also thought that FTP would be simpler for people on the other end (especially windows users) to access.

John, checked out File Chute. That definetly looks like an answer to part of the problem. I’m downloading now and will try it out. Thanks for the tip.

I am sure others will be able to chime in about a good FTP service….

Keep in mind, you do not need to use an FTP service…any Mac connected to the internet can be an FTP server…all you need to do is turn it on in your Sharing Preference pane.
To make things a bit more secure you can use this free software..Pure FTP.

We use mediamax.com to host all our video files.

What’s nice about it is you can send your clients an email link which they just click on to download a particular clip – or you can give them passwords, etc to access your entire media online library via the net.

    Try this one.
    https://www.pando.com

It’s free, Mac or PC, and has been very good for me.
Largest file I have shared so far is a little over 200 megs.
