just to let you know, premiere pro is not recommended for laptop use.
more than likely what you are experiencing is a bandwith issue. Laptops have limitiations that can cause problems in premiere during capturing and playback, on laptops usb and firewire share bandwith (i’m not saying that your laptop is inadequeate). This is a hardware limitation that premiere is not able to work around(blame your shared system bus and memory and limited bandwith)
you can try to either to
    1. disconnect other devices firewire,USB,printers, & scanners etc…from your laptop
    2. uninstall and reinstall premiere.
    3. install premiere on a desktop machine and try to capture and see if you can use device control
    4. update to the latest drivers for you firewire port
firewire through pcimia cards do not and will not work (ever or rarely)

If you don’t believe me call tech support and see what they say. though if you don’t have a product contract i would wait to call them until monday, so you don’t have to pay for the call on weekends

I have to add in here that I do a lot of editing on PPro, on a laptop, with a pcimia card . . . with few problems.

I had more issues using the built in 4-pin firewire connector because it would constantly get worked loose and cause many issues, including corrupted projects. The addition of the pcimia card gave me a 6-pin connector that is much more robust and locks better.

Granted, I’m not doing any major compositing, just cutting, color correcting, basic effects and graphics.

Just curious what editing on a laptop has to do with someone’s sale of a MultiCam Package?
