I just bought an HVX so I am new to HD. Besides the obvious difference 40GB vs 60GB for the FS-4, I noticed that you can’t recrord in a few additional formats for the FS-4. Would I be better to get the FS-4 Pro HD? Can you shed some light on the differences?

    Thanks,

The FS-4 can be only used to capture DV on the HVX200.

You cannot record any DVCProHD to the FS-4

that is what I thought….anything else I need to know about the differences?

The FS-4 (in any variation) is not the right product for the HVX. It will be completely useless as far as HD goes. The FS-4Pro HD will not record HD from an HVX.

The *only* FireStore that records HD on the HVX is the FS-100. Any member of the FS-4 family will only record regular DV from the HVX.

Thanks, that really helps and keeps me from buying the wrong version. Can you also go up to the 120GB and it records HD? Are there any other firestore brands out there other than focus enhancements? I thought I saw a Sony?

Focus Enhancements makes and markets the Firestore brand.

The FS-100 is the only Focus product that will record DVCProHD with the HVX200.

Sony makes its own hard drive acquisiton systems, which are not DVCProHD. That codec is Panasonic’s which makes the HVX200.

Right now there is only one hard disk recorder on the market that works with the HVX200, and that’s the FireStore FS-100.

There is a second manufacturer that offers a competing device, the Citidisk, but search around for user reports on that one.

Thank you all. I am being nit-picky here, but the 100 doesn’t record in which 24p mode? I can’t find the article which covers the FS 100. Again I am new to HD and is this format widely used? I may have to get 1 P2 card to be fully covered.

thanks for the help, you have kept me from bidding on the wrong drive on ebay and thus needlessly spending 800-1000 bucks.

Barry, I am anxiously awaiting your book on the DVX200….which I hope comes soon. I read parts of the 100B and it really helped me understand the camera
