Frutiger “A” cut off?!?
Posted by Brandon Adams on February 13, 2010 at 12:54 amI’m really not sure what is causing this problem. The letter “A” in my Frutiger font is getting cut off in FCP and AE and Motion. It shows up fine in Linotype FontExplorer and Word. It is in PostScript format if that makes a difference.
Here is an example https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2056709/Picture%204.png
Anyone have any ideas?

February 13, 2010 at 1:28 amI couldn’t install it with Font Book and it won’t show up in it. I had to install it using Linotype FontExplorer.

February 13, 2010 at 2:45 amI have to use Frutiger. Client brand. It’s purchased from Adobe so there’s nothing wrong with the font itself.

February 13, 2010 at 11:37 pmWell then I’d check in with them- perhaps you have the wrong version for Mac OS X.

February 16, 2010 at 2:20 pmIs it a TrueType font? Open Type? You may need to convert it.

January 10, 2016 at 4:26 pmI know this is an old thread, but I just had the same problem with ITC Avante Garde Bold, and have just now solved it in Motion 4, so thought I’d better share it just in case others are pulling their hair out like I was!
I downloaded the font in Open Type format (.otf), unzipped the file, then installed it using Fontbook. I then converted it online to a True Type format (.ttf). Here’s where the problem is – you’ve got two versions of the same font on the computer, and when I typed the word ‘COMMUNICATION’ in Motion, the ends of the ‘C’s were cut off!
To solve it, open Fontbook, find the font, right click and select ‘Validate Font’, as Mark suggests above. Check the box next to the .otf version, and click ‘Remove Checked’ at the bottom of that window. Then open up Motion again, and your font should work. At least mine did!
