I know people have done this. I have seen it done. But I can’t for the life of me figure out how.

I generally capture large chunks of video. Frankly, it saves me time. So I can just set up a few 10 minute clips to digitize and then go work for another client for a while. I would assume we all do this sometimes.

Anyway, I digitized a project like that, then took it offline. Now the client wants to bring it back up.

So how do i just capture what’s in my timeline, and not the entirity of all of my lackadasical ten minute clips?

Media Manager and I have been fighting all day. At this point, Media Manager is winning. I have tried what I think is every combination of settings in that thing, and I can’t seem to get a new project where the clips in the “Master Clips” Folder reflect anything I have done with them on the timeline.

I have read several posts on here of people with the same problem, but no one has written back that they had astounding success.

I have final cut FCP5 HD, by the way.

    Anyone have any fantastic ideas?

Doesn’t it work to copy the project using Media Manager and check the box that asks FCP to delete the unused media from the clips?

[Catama Productions] “So how do i just capture what’s in my timeline, and not the entirity of all of my lackadasical ten minute clips?”

Are you trying to recapture the media from tape or reconnect media from the excisting “10 minute” clips?

If you want to recapture ONLY what’s was in your timeline (possibly with handles) Then you need to the following:

Right clip the timeline of your choice.
set Media Manager to “Create offline” from the drop down menu.
    Unselect “Include masterclips outside selection”
Select “Delete unused media from duplicated items”
Select “Use handles” and the duration you want (2 or 3 second is normal)
    Unselect “Include affiliated clips…”
Base media file names on “existing file names”
    Unselect “Include nonactive multiclip andgles”
    Select “OK”

Then FCP should create a new project the a bin full of clips for you to recapture. I hope this helps.

    cheers,
    greg

PS Media Manager works only on items you select in your project.

The above instructions by Greg Nosaty are correct, but you may need to do one more thing. After your select your timeline in the browser (step 1 above), right click and select “Make Sequence Clips Independent”, then proceed to the next step of right clicking again and select Media Manager. After that, proceed to the next step of “set Media Manager to “Create offline” from the drop down menu.” in the post above.
