  • Frustrated with Ayato tutorial — melting text with glow. Grrrrr.

I’m referring to the tutorial noted by another poster earlier (simulating a smoke-like reveal) located here:

    https://www.ayatoweb.com/ae_tips_e/ae21_e.html#

All my steps look just like the steps in the tutorial (fractal noise layers, etc.) but when I comp all the elements I don’t get the same result. My text snakes around appropriately enough, albeit a bit more awkwardly, but the glow is barely discernible. It looks nothing like the demo movie.

I’m an AE rookie, only a month old, so forgive this additional ignorant question: Even if I did see the glow (which I don’t), how do I get my text to resolve into its normal state? Mine just keeps perpetually wriggling.

I’m running AE 6.5 Pro on my ibook G4. This demo was built using 5.5, but still. I’m just sayin’…..

Many thanks — this forum is a goldmine.

Ah, I remember trying out that tutorial and I had the same result as you. Then I tried setting my project to 16-bit instead of 8-bit, and it magically worked 🙂
Try that and see if it helps.

Once I used the ram preview on the separate comps and THEN previewed the final comp, I finally saw the melting glow effect.

But now that I see the melting glow, I don’t know how to resolve it into the clear original text???? Help.

If you look at the video beside of step 2, you see how he has animated it so that the fractal noise moves to the right, and just black is left? The fractal noise texture is what causes the text to animate, so as it moves away and the black area is left, the text that is under the black should appear as normal. Does that make sense?

The cryptic “move to the right flickeringly” instruction. I thought they were referring to the values in the effect (evolution and offset turbulence). Didn’t get that it was the position!.

I see that I also have to move the fractal material built in Step 4 as well. Now it’s perfect. Thanks so very much.

I wish the instructions were a bit more precise AND also explained how things are working. I’m just blindly following the instructions and not quite understanding how and why they work.

    Really appreciate your expertise.
