May 27, 2005 at 10:15 amHello Everybody ,
What is the exact difference between FP and DW for generating HTML code? I know that the Layer facility from DW is not supported entirely by FP? Is there any other things also to take into consideration?
Like Pros and Cons for FP and DW ?
–Thank you.

May 27, 2005 at 5:03 pmI may be wrong but I think Front Page will only work with MS technoligies like VBscripting and SQL server and not php and MySQL. I also think it uses MS front page extensions which may not work with all web servers. Lastly FrontPage is geared towards beginning users, while Dreamweaver can be more advanced.

May 30, 2005 at 3:11 amFont Page is its own animal. I strange ugly looking animal at that. It’s usually best to stay away from using FP as a tool for designing sites. Unless you have a site that was designed with it, and is hosted on a server that requires you to use it, ust best to avoid it. And, personally, if someone wants me to make design changes to their site and FP is required, I charge more. It is going to take more time to get things done.
…. Bottom Line: Avoid it….

May 30, 2005 at 1:42 pmHTML Code!
That is the big problem with Front Page. It generates what I like to call Microsoft code. Basically the same engine is involved that runs Word. Type some text into a word doc and then save it as html file. After you save the word doc as an html document, open it in notepad and look at the code that it generates just for a simple page. And, the more elements on the page, the more complicated the code that it adds. The time that it takes you to strip out the unnecessary code is massive. This is one of the biggest problems with FP. And, if you open an existing html page in FP it will add the code.
Dreamweaver adds a little bit of header code to a document, (but you can turn this off so that it doesn’t happen,) and, what it adds isn’t usually a big deal, just doc-type info.
There is no option -not to add the code- in FP. As an html editor, its pretty much useless. You will drive yoruself crazy. If my only html editor option was FP, I’d use notepad, and, I’d get the job done quicker…

October 17, 2022 at 8:11 pmI would say that front page loads faster. That is the only thing. Once you hit maybe about 20k lines of code, Dreamweaver takes forever.
There is only one god of copy and paste and that is Dreamweaver. But sometimes i use text edit for opening sql copy/paste because it is faster. I use DW every single day.
