Okay, I finished my first feature film SIX LOVERS. All edited on sony Vegas Pro 9. I upgraded to 10 and didn’t touch it, kept crashing, maybe too intensive on RAM. Now 11 is nearly out, that will be the deciding factor whether to switch to Premiere or not.

I want to do a pre-screen test in a cinema venue of 150 people, see it on a big screen and I have the option of 35mm or DCP. I rang up a few post houses and I received quotes of between $6,000 to $8,000 for a 98 minute film DCP conversion. Say what?? A digital file conversion for $8K?? It’s not a film print. I’m based in Australia, are these prices insane or is that the going rate? How about a direct export from Vegas Pro 11 to DCP, now that would make me stick to Vegas!

I’m sure not many are using Vegas for cinema features, but I would be curious to understand further on DCP. On top of that there’s a $50 fee to unlock it.

Good job edited in Vegas? I see some of Vegas effects you used. Also…Video CoPilot sound track and great job with Canon 7D.

I was quite happy to edit in Vegas, did the job well. A lot of crashing but that’s probably due to only having 8gigs of ram.

I think you viewed the teaser, compiled from the auditions.

Thank you, that looks interesting. Not exactly straight forward but nevertheless, worth a try.

Interesting that you’re having crashes with Vegas 10 — it crashes on me constantly as well, and many of my projects include footage from a 60D — probably the same as from a 7D. I’ve had a bug report open for 3 months now, and still no progress on it. I’m hoping Sony will finally ask for the project files soon, so they can try it themselves.
