From Premiere Pro CS3 to FCPS2
Posted by Antonio Scarpitta on June 19, 2008 at 7:00 pmHello all,
We have captured lots of HDV footage (mpgs)into PPCS3 and built a 1/2 an hour program. Is there a way to read PP timelines into FCP? We need to finish in FCP (don’t ask) and we’re trying to find the best way to do it w/o recutting the whole show or redigitizing the media.
Any suggestions,
Many thanks in advance,
A.

June 19, 2008 at 7:34 pmFCP will not read a PP sequence. You need to export a QT of the PP edit and bring it into FCP. Then the real editing starts. Good luck.

Export an OMF and then open that in FCP. It works quite well.

June 19, 2008 at 7:39 pmWell, can’t do it with Automatic duck. Works between AE and FCP, and Premiere and Autodesk…but not FCP and Premiere.
Moving between non-linear editing systems usually means that you have to redigitize. Because the codecs that one NLE captures to aren’t always compatible or optimal with another, and you will have more issues than you can shake a stick at.
I think you will be stuck with exporting an EDL and importing that into FCP and recapturing. But what do I know about this workfow…?

June 19, 2008 at 9:10 pmI have exported XMLs from Premiere Pro and brought them into Avid Xpress Pro before (albeit I had to recapture, but the cuts where mostly retained) so that might be an option to try with FCP. Can’t guarantee it’ll work, but it’s worth a shot.

I haven’t been able to find how to export XMLs from PP. Could you tell me how this is done?
Thanks man,
A.
