I had an 8 hour shoot last week that I shot on my Canon XF300.
I rolled for 2 hours at a time before ingesting into my external hd. When I got around to looking at my clips this morning, I noticed that either my Canon XF300 or Adobe had separated each 2 hour clip into several smaller clips. I was concerned at first, but upon putting them into my timeline there are no jump cuts and everything looks and sounds perfect.
I’ve never done a shoot that long so I was surprised to see that clip separation. Has anyone else had experience with this?
I think it’s a great feature, but am wondering if there are any drawbacks to having many come from one…

Did you import the clips through Media Browser?

Never rename the CONTENTS folder or rename/remove any files in it’s subfolders. I assume that you renamed the CONTENTS folder because if you do you’ll get lots of individual clips. If you don’t, Premiere Pro “stitch” those spanned clips together into one (1) clip.

I name my folder like this:
    /Project_name/Media/Card_01/CONTENTS
    /Project_name/Media/Card_02/CONTENTS
    /Project_name/Media/Card_03/CONTENTS
    /Project_name/Media/Card_04/CONTENTS

Iow, one card in it’s unique folder instead of renaming the CONTENTS folder. Use whatever name that suits you if Card_01 etc don’t describe enough about the media. 🙂
