From offlineRT 29.97 to 23.98…how?
Hi all. I have some questions regarding post-production workflow. We have 80+ hrs of footage that was shot with two Panny dvx100’s in 24p (standard mode), and captured into final cut via OfflineRT (29.97/320×240/35% photo jpeg codec, etc.) However, a friend of mine who will be co-editing with me made a really good suggestion that might delay matters somewhat. He suggested we convert the footage to 23.98 inside Cinema Tools “before we offline edit” (reverse telecine), then offline edit on a 23.98 timeline inside Final Cut, and THEN online on a 23.98 timeline. He said this will make for a cleaner, sharper image output to DVD (true progressive image). My problem is, all the footage has already been captured, and we’ve even edited 10 minutes of the piece already, so…what would be the best, most painless way to convert my 80 hrs of offlineRT footage from 29.97 to 23.98, and keep my edits as is? I would definitely prefer to have a sharper image on output, but I’m hoping there’s not too much work that needs to be done before we can continue cutting. I can’t really afford many delays. Can I just convert my “edited timeline” to 23.98? Or is it better just to do all the media, since there’s a discrepancy is frame rates?
