Is there anything in FCP that I can use to get my video to look more like film. When I output to DVD, the picture always looks like live TV (like a soap opera or sports). I am shooting in SD at 30FPS.

First rule…light well and color correct well. Those are the biggest things. But, if you want the film CADENCE…meaning the 24fps look, then look at http://www.nattress.com and FILM EFFECTS.

Not meant to be facetious, but you say “I am shooting in SD at 30fps” which implies maybe you have more shooting to do, so… if it’s film look you’re after for certain projects, and if a post-production solution isn’t everything you want it to be, consider getting hold of/renting a camera that shoots 24p, they’re quite common.

Obviously lighting, framing and 16:9 aspect ratio are the best places to start – but I’d also recommend Magic Bullet Looks to create stunning film-looks.

All pointed here. 16×9, 24p and MB Looks. However, make a Google search: Video cine look or film look, and you will find many interesting and helpful tips, examples and ideas.

I second on the Nattress effects, also try the Sapphire effects from Gen Arts.
